Can my child sign up for more than one week?
Yes, in fact many of our students do. Each week, children learn about a different aspect of theatre writing whilst consolidating what they have already learnt.

What’s the policy in terms of weather?
All classes will be cancelled in the event of a Typhoon Signal 8 or higher, or Black Rain Signal if hoisted at 7am for morning workshops and 1.00pm for afternoon workshops. There are no make-up classes.

Will there be any formal feedback or reports from the Summer Theatre Programme?
The course is designed to engage students in the world of theatre and to learn about drama in a fun yet disciplined way. Parents are free to ask teachers at the end of the open session on the final workshop about how their child is doing. They will also be sent a workshop report half way through the week Tthe course is not an academically assessed and all students will get an end of week certificate.

What will be taught at Summer Theatre?
Each week brings a different focus and theme with content tailored to the needs of the group. Children will cover a variety of skills including improvisation, expression, devising and role play. A sample outline is available from Faust highlighting a potential week. Parents will be kept informed of what their child is studying through a mid-week report.

My child is very shy. Will they enjoy the workshops?
Yes, our workshops are designed for shy through to confident children. Leaders work within a child’s comfort zone, encouraging and supporting them. Drama is a fantastic way to help increase confidence.

Will I get to see what my child has accomplished?
Friends and family are invited to an end-of-week open session. Our younger learners will share their learning and our older learners will demonstrate their skills and knowledge in a short performance.

Could you fax or email me a copy of what the kids will do every week?
There is a range of possible outlines at the beginning of the course as each week we have a mix of old students and new students. The leaders want to meet the students first before deciding on a topic or theme that would be appropriate for the students involved to avoid repetition. Parents will get a chance to find out what they have done via a mid-week report and at the open session on the final day of the course. If you would like a sample outline of some of the activities they could be doing then please contact us.

Will the summer programme be a repetition of what they learned during the FIYT regular season? What additional benefits are there?
For children who have completed our regular workshops during the rest of the year, summer theatre represents a chance to continue learning about drama in a slightly new setting. The summer workshops are a unique experience as it is a one week intensive programme rather than a meeting once a week for ten weeks. It is also good for children to work with other members, to try something different and to maybe have a different leader as well. There will be some repetition but in our experience Faust students still benefit and they may find a different interpretation on a skill or develop their abilities still further.

My child doesn’t speak English as a first language?
Our Summer Theatre programme is designed for native and near-native -English speakers.

Can my child continue with their drama lessons in September?
Yes, we run after school and Saturday drama workshops during term time. As a member of our summer programme you will be sent details of all our subsequent courses.

Where do the classes take place?
This summer we have four venue options: the Faust Studio in Sheung Wan, Island Schoo, Discovery Bay, Southside and Kowloon Junior School.

Will my child have homework to do after Summer Theatre?
It varies from age group to age group although most of the time it will simply be learning lines. Leaders may ask older groups to occasionally bring in costume items/music when appropriate. Some teen groups may be given playwriting assignments. There is no worksheet or long essay assignment with the course.
