Over the holiday periods throughout the year we offer our Play in a Day programme. This is open to members and non-members and involves a group having one day to put on their own performance. It is an enjoyable day and offers a fantastic experience of performing live theatre. Choices of plays are varied, depending on the age of the members, the time of year and the interests of the children and leaders. Past plays have included Robin Hood, Matilda and a play written specifically for Play in a Day about Chinese New Year.

The day starts at 10am and after some initial warm-up activities the group brainstorms ideas and begins to develop these to create their performance plans. The group establishes who will do what, who's in charge of each component part, how the script will work and who will play which role!

Members of Play in a Day then quickly start to work on characterisation, line-learning, rehearsing, blocking, prop-development and performing. Everyone has to think on theeir feet, problem-solve and promote a team spirit to inspire all to achieve their best.

And then, just 7 hours later, at 5pm, the group performs their play – in front of an audience!! Each participant can invite two guests to share the magic of Play in a Day!

Participants need to have at least some theatrical experience and everyone must be prepared to make the effort required, throw themselves in and be prepared to try new things!
