Dear
Parents,
Happy
Chinese New Year! As we enter the year of the
Tiger on Valentine's Day we hope the year will
bring you lots of strength, courage and love! For
those of you celebrating the New Year in Hong Kong
we have a couple of options to help keep your
children dramatic!
On
Friday 18th February we have a Specialised
Workshop on Audition Skills and on Saturday 19th
February we have a Chinese New Year themed Play in
a Day. In addition to this we also have a
wonderful Specialised Workshop on Friday 5th
February delivered by Theatre of the Silence.
This talented hearing impaired theatre
group have performed around the world sharing
their performing talent without the need for
words. This wonderful workshop will be an ideal
opportunity for children to learn how to make the
most of mime and body language.
This
month's newsletter looks at our youngest and
oldest groups. In response to popular demand we
are now offering Faust for 3s and nearly 3s.
These workshops start at the end of February and
more information can be found below. Our oldest
STAGE group 15-18 years old are also busy
preparing for their production of The
Crucible on 17th to 21st March and
below Matthew Gregory shares some of the
background and information about this fantastic
show.
I
hope you enjoy this month's newsletter and
everyone at Faust wishes you a prosperous Chinese
New Year.
Best
Regards
Claire

Alice in
Wonderland - A
Review

Talking White Rabbits. Giant playing cards. A
dog playing the role of a pig. These are just a
few of the very strange and wonderful things that
I had to think about during the past four
months. A production of Alice in
Wonderland was never going to be
straightforward but even I was bewildered at times
thinking how on earth was I going to get there.
Now that the production is complete I wonder if it
is possible to stay.
During
these four months the cast, production team
and creative team all dared to dive into this
adventure with me. It has been tiring at times and
a lot of rehearsal hours and even longer meetings
to prepare this production. Through it all
everyone was quite simply awesome, supportive and
a little mad. I really appreciated the sense of
glee and spark of this team of young actors and
veteran theatre practitioners. As their Director,
I am humbled by their talent and commitment and
know everybody brought something special to this
theatrical tea party.
The performances are
now finished and it is time to wake up from this
dream of a production. For those of you who
watched our show we hope you enjoyed it as much as
we had fun creating it. For those who haven't we
hope that you will join us in our next production
either in our next auditions or as an audience
member. For those who were with me on this
journey, you were simply brilliant and the best
companions one could have.
It's been a glorious
trip down to Wonderland. I wonder where we will
wander to next time...

The
Crucible
This term,
members of Group Stage will take to the boards in
a dramatic and moving story by American
playwright, Arthur Miller. Group members will not
only perform but also help produce and design the
production alongside their group leaders, Kitty
Cortes and Matthew Gregory. First
performed in 1953 at the height of Senator
McCarthy's campaign against communists and their
associates, The Crucible draws a clear
analogy with the witch hunts of Salem,
Massachusetts in 1692 - the subject of the
play. After a prank by a group of teenage girls
goes wrong, the entire village is soon consumed by
hysteria, leading to innocent victims being put on
trial and a devastating
conclusion. The
Crucible will run from 17th - 20th March at
the McAulay Studio by arrangement with Josef
Weinberger Ltd. School bookings are now available
for shows on 17th, 18th & 19th at 10.00am.

Tiny Tots - For 3's and
nearly 3's!
In response to popular demand we are proud to
launch a new Faust programme for children aged 3
and nearly 3. Under the careful and supportive
guidance of trained Early Years Leaders our
workshops introduce our youngest members to the
wonderful world of theatre!
The 3 and nearly 3
year old is full of wonder and spends a lot of
time observing and imitating. They are changing
physically, emotionally, socially and
intellectually and drama is a great tool to help
this development and to stimulate
creativity.
At this age our
little ones are starting to really enjoy and
listen attentively to short stories andit is
through this medium that we
will interact with children, helping develop
their fine motor skills and cognitive skills by
getting them involved in the story telling
process. As children develop their language they
also often love repeating simple rhymes and songs
and we will spend time doing this in our workshop.
They are also starting to enjoy play, and we will
encourage them to play and interact with other
children in the group. Most importantly the 3 (and
nearly 3) are also starting to enjoy making others
laugh and being silly and what better environment
for this then in a drama workshop!
Our workshops are
designed for all, whether your child is shy or
confident, a real go-getter or a more reflective
type. Workshops run every Friday at the Faust
Studio from 4.00pm to 5.15pm and start
Friday 26th February. For more information please

Drama Game of the
Month
Alphabet Conversation
Have a conversation where each
sentence begins with the next letter of the
alphabet. This may seem difficult at first, but
improves with practice. If you get stuck, you can
also use sounds to start a sentence, for example
"Mmmm" or "tut-tut". Here is an example:
A: Anyone seen my
cat? B: Black one, with funny eyes? A: Can't
say I remember. B: Don't tell me you've
forgotten what it looks like? A: Every cat
looks the same to me. B: Fortunately, I found
one yesterday A: Gee, that's
great...
