Dear
Parents
Happy
New Year! I hope you had a great festive period
with plenty of time to eat, sleep and be merry! A
special thanks goes out to those who attended our
Festive Fundraiser on December 5th when we
raised a significant contribution for Mother's
Choice.
As
we enter 2010 we look forward to a fun packed
year. From January 21st to 24th we have our
production of Alice in
Wonderland at the Shouson Theatre. Our
talented cast of almost 40 children have been
working really hard and it promises to be a show
full of twists and turns, energy and humour and
above all a great way to start the year!
We
are also excited to launch a new Faust programme
for our youngest members. Faust Tiny Tots will run
on Friday afternoons for nearly 3s and 3 year
olds. You can find more information on this
below.
Term
2 of Faust International Youth Theatre has now
begun and we are starting to turn our
thoughts to the annual Faust Festival
which runs from May 24th to June 19th.
We also have an array of specialised
workshops and Play in a Days coming up (more
information below). On a more theatrical front we
also launch a new Theatre in Education show,
Oliver Twist as well as our oldest Stage
Group taking on the challenge of The Crucible
at the McAulay between March 17th -
20th.
I
do hope you enjoy our first newsletter of 2010 and
if you have any comments or feedback then please
don't hesitate to contact me.
Kind
regards
Claire Glover General

Alice in
Wonderland - Director's
Diary
Our production of Alice in
Wonderland opens next week at the Shouson
Theatre. There are so many things to finalise
and so many things to prepare. The big set
pieces, the intricately made props, the fantastic
costumes and the exciting original music are all
coming together like a big wacky technicolour
dream. Sometimes there are so many things going on
I feel like Alice falling down the Rabbit Hole and
all I can do is watch all the curious things
around me float by.
Underneath all of the make up, costume
and technical matters of the production lies this
fantastic cast of young actors and actresses. From
week to week I have seen them work so hard to
master this very difficult and headspinning story.
So much of this particular production requires
attention to detail and vast amounts of energy.
The White Rabbit can never slow down, the Mad
Hatter's Tea Party will always go on and every
citizen of Wonderland must buzz and pop on stage.
It is a wonder the cast are able to do this week
after week in rehearsal to step into the shoes of
this very mad story.
Whatever happens between now and the end
of the last performance, I am proud of my cast and
I can't wait until everybody can see just
how deliriously brilliant the cast of
Alice in Wonderland can be.

Theatre of the Silence:
Acting Without Words
There are a variety
of ways in which people communicate in this
multicultural world. A common language that is
arguably our most expressive is body language.
Faust invites a group
of experts in this form of communication, Theatre
of the Silence, to lead a workshop and share some
of their experience with us.

Audition
Skills Workshop
All budding actors have one thing
in common: Auditions! At some point we have to
stand up and be auditioned - whether it's for
a class presentation, a school play, a Faust
production or perhaps even a TV commercial. The
question is: are we ready? It's really important
to know what to expect on the day and to have an
idea of how to make ourselves stand out from the
crowd while still coming across as a valuable team
player.

Chinese New Year 2010 Play
in a Day
As we enter
the year of the Tiger, what better way to
celebrate than by performing an original Play in a
Day story inspired by Chinese New Year. Our script
tells of the great zodiac race in which the 12
great animals collaborate and conspire to get to
the finish line to become the first animal in the
Chinese Zodiac!

Oliver Twist by Faust TIE!
We begin 2010 with a
brand new Theatre in Education production of
Charles Dickens' classic story of a young orphan
boy who seeks his fortune on the streets of
London. Our charming version incorporates
narration, dialogue, music, movement
 and significant
audience participation to recreate the bustling
world of nineteenth century London, in a
production that inspires students and provides
considerable material for further discussion.
Oliver Twist is performed by a small
adult cast and is ideally suited for upper primary
through to lower secondary students. The
production is available to tour schools and
organisations, along with our existing productions
of Peter & the Wolf and The
Secret Garden. For more information, call
2547 9114 or email TIE@FaustWorld.com.
