Faust International Youth Theatre Newsletter
HomeVol. 2 No. 3 September 4th 2009

Welcome to Faust's 11th season! We have lots of fun and creative activities planned that we hope will entertain, educate and inspire our members!

Our new term starts on the 19th September (unless you are member of our groups at HKIS which start earlier on the 14th and 15th September). You will shortly be receiving by email term schedules which share with you what your child will be doing this term.

Our eleventh season sees us welcome some new members to the Faust team. Jessica McClellan has joined us as a full time Drama Leader (Alexa Massingham has returned to the UK to pursue future study). We also welcome Aarti Hemnani who will be working on our exciting new Theatre in Education programme.

We have lots of exciting plans for our 11th season, some of which are outlined below and we look forward to sharing these events with you. I am looking forward to meeting you in the coming terms and if you have any feedback then please don't hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Alice in Wonderland

We start our new term off with news of our exciting new production of Alice in Wonderland. This will run from the 21st to the 24th January in the Shouson Theatre. Director Keon Lee and Assistant Director Jessica McClellan are looking forward to bringing this classic to life on stage. An original production that will breathe new energy into the tale as we follow Alice down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland.

There are many fun and challenging roles for our Faust members from ages 8 to 18. This will be one theatrical journey that cast members and audiences will never forget! Auditions have been scheduled for Friday 25th & Saturday 26th September. Click here for an audition form and more details. Please note, you need to be a registered (and paid) member of Faust this term to audition.
Half-Term Play in a Day
Play in a Day Logo
This term also sees the return of our popular Play in a Day, where children have just one day to put on their own performance.

For our first Play in Day of season 11 we will be working on the popular Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in a condensed 30 minute format. With a wide range of colourful characters to perform and many sticky and surreal situations to get out of, it is a great play for our young members to perform during the half term. In just one day they must practice lines, stage the play, get costumes ready and rehearse so the audience enjoys the show! Click here for a registration form.

Theatre in Education
2 TIE Shows
Faust's recently launched TIE programme produces exciting educational productions of literary classics to be performed in schools across Hong Kong & Kowloon. Our three-member adult cast brings the magic of live theatre directly to students through interactive performances that inspire discussion and promote learning. Performances currently on tour are Peter & the Wolf and The Secret Garden, both of which have received rave reviews thus far from audience-schools. Also on offer, from September 2009, are tailor-made workshops for schools to engage their students in before or after seeing a TIE show. Contact Aarti on 2547 9114 or email TIE@FaustWorld.com for more information on bringing TIE to your child's school!

"The kids loved having the stage and show 'all to themselves' - thanks for giving them a special time!"

"The children and the staff thought it was a great mix of acting and music and also getting the audience involved"

Drama Game of the Month
Shoe Shuffle!
Pass any easy-to-handle object around the circle or place it in the centre - for example a shoe, a bucket or a piece of cloth. Each person uses it in turn, changing it into a different object each time. It can be anything apart from what it really is! As a variation: have other members join the improvisation so that a short scene develops!
